We combine yoga, mindfulness and positive psychology practices to decrease stress and anxiety, enhance resilience and increase self-belief.

Our program includes:

  • learning about our amazing brain, the amygdala's role in our flight or fight "stress" response and the role of the prefrontal cortex in understanding and managing our emotions

  • learning to focus and hold our attention

  • resourcing ourselves with simple breathing practices that help us to find the still, quiet place within and how this enables us to recognise choice points and make good decisions

  • developing an attitude of kindness and curiosity towards our experiences

  • becoming aware of thoughts and how thoughts affect our emotions which in turn affect how we act

  • learning how we can use mindful practices to deal with stress and anxiety

  • becoming our own best friend, understanding negative self talk

  • understanding how our brains evolved for survival and not for happiness and how we can savour positive experiences to develop a happier brain

Thriving Teens

A four week mindfulness-based wellbeing program, empowering teens aged 12 to 15, who have a connection to Bayside (work, live, study, school).

This program will focus on growth mindset, positive psychology, mindfulness, resilience, self-belief and self-care.

(NO Yoga at this program it is a mindset program only)

The program includes:

Mindfulness strategies to find a place of steadiness, no matter what is going on in your life.

Reduce stress and anxiety with breathing techniques, mindfulness practices and meditation.

Dealing with difficult emotions: building emotional literacy and happiness.

Understanding what you are feeling and how to use mindfulness and other strategies to work skilfully with emotions.

Happiness is a skill and like any skill, it can be developed with practice. By applying positive psychology practices, you can strengthen your happiness “muscle” for greater optimism and joy.

Selfcare is a superpower. Identify your character strengths and play to those attributes.

When working with difficult emotions and challenging circumstances, having compassion for ourselves enables us to build resilience and confidence in our ability to meet the challenges of life. It also builds empathy for those around us.
Identify and acknowledge personal strengths for greater confidence and wellbeing.

Understand the nature of the mind and how to master your mindset.

Understanding how our brain works, helps us to create a growth mindset, which improves motivation, creative problem solving and reduces stress and anxiety. We’ll be applying positive psychology strategies to combat worries and update the operating system that’s running your mindset for greater confidence, self-belief and resilience.

Bayside Youth Services has partnered with Sanctuary Yoga in 2022 to run the Thriving Teens program within Bayside and it has been very well received in the community. The Thriving Teens program is a great opportunity for young people to learn both practical and theoretical skills around mindfulness and how to manage difficult emotions. This program offers young people a safe environment for them to engage meaningfully with the content and with one another
